The world continues to grapple with losses and market place disruptions because of ASF. What can we do to mitigate risk? Is a vaccine the answer? Dr. Jose Manuel Sanchez-Vizcaino, Complutense University of Madrid Visvet Center and OIE-ASF Reference Laboratory says we need to keep studying the virus, until we know it well enough to eliminate it. "Normally we say, 'to know me is to love me,'" says Dr. Sanchez-Vizcaino. "But for ASF, to know me is to kill me."
Effective vaccine development is dependent on knowing the virus inside and out. That's not the case for ASF, yet.
